Shining in her first starts of the season, Mikaela Cameron has been named the Birchwood Automotive Group female athlete of the week.
Cameron, a sophomore setter on the women's volleyball team, posted multiple career-highs in helping the Wesmen earn a tough road split against the UBC-Okangan Heat in Kelowna, B.C.
Cameron, a native of Surrey, B.C., was thrust into the starting role with regular starter Rylie Dickson unavailable due to academic commitments.
Cameron responded by posting career-highs for assists (40) and digs (11) on Friday night as the Wesmen handed the Heat just their second straight-sets loss of the season. She chipped in with a solo block and four block assists.
On Saturday, Cameron added to her totals with 31 assists and a new career-high 19 digs in a four-set loss. She also added three kills on three swings.
The women's volleyball team is on the road at Saskatchewan on Friday and Saturday.
