A veteran player has been added to the University of Winnipeg Wesmen Women's Volleyball program. Head coach Diane Scott is pleased to announce that Kalena Schulz (Winnipeg, Manitoba) has committed to joining the Women's Volleyball program for the upcoming 2017-2018 Canada West season beginning in September.
Schulz joins the Wesmen after playing two seasons at the University of Manitoba (2014-15 and 2015-16). In her rookie season, Kalena was named to the Canada West All-Rookie Team after finishing third on the squad with 136 kills and fourth in digs with 186.
"We are so excited to have Kalena Schulz return to our Wesmen program. From a young age we knew Kalena was an exceptional athlete when she was developing her skills under the tutelage of Steph Ringer on our Jr. Wesmen 16U team. Kalena brings skill, athleticism, experience, maturity, humility and an absolute competitive attitude. She is a committed student, a motivated athlete and an exceptional human. Her desire to return to the court and share her passion of sport is a privilege for our team and for me as a coach", said Wesmen Women's Volleyball head coach Diane Scott.
She was captain of the Provincial AAAA champion Mennonite Brethren Hawks team and was selected a graduating all-star. Schulz capped off her high school career by being named the Dale Iwanoczko Award winner. An accomplished club player she was captain in grade 12 of the Cobras Club team that won a National Championship
Away from the court, Schulz has volunteered at Siloam Mission for the past two years and spends time listening to music and enjoying the outdoors.
She will be continuing to study Business at the University of Winnipeg this September.
