A couple of single-game stat-stuffers have been named the top Winnipeg Wesmen of the week.
Faith Hezekiah of women's basketball and Daniel Thiessen of men's volleyball are this week's Garbonzo's Wesmen Players of the week after leading their teams in winning performances last week.
Faith Hezekiah, women's basketball: Hezekiah found multiple ways to help the Wesmen to a convincing playoff win over the UNBC Timberwolves Thursday night.
Hezekiah, who is averaging a double-double this season of 17.1 points and 11 rebounds per game, had an efficient 24 points, 12 rebounds and five steals as the Wesmen defeated the Timberwolves 82-65 in the first round of the Canada West post-season.
Hezekiah and the Wesmen will be in Saskatoon starting Thursday to play a best-of-three quarter-final against the Saskatchewan Huskies.
Daniel Thiessen, men's volleyball: After sitting out most of the first match of the weekend as the Wesmen acclimatized to Taylor Howe returning to the lineup, Thiessen was a force in a five-set loss to Alberta on Saturday. The second-year right side hit .256 for the match on 43 swings, notching a team-high 17 kills while also recording 14 digs, two assists and a block assist.
Thiessen and the men's volleyball team are on the road to close the season Friday and Saturday at MacEwan.
