Winnipeg Wesmen Athletics is pleased to announce a new partnership with King's Head Pub to become the official pub of the Wesmen.
As part of the new agreement, the King's Head will serve as a pre- and post-game home for Wesmen women's soccer matches in 2018.
University of Winnipeg student groups, Wesmen boosters, family, and all supporters of university sport will be invited to gather at the King's Head on Wesmen game days two hours prior to kickoff. Appetizers will be provided to the Wesmen contingent and the King's Head will be serving from one of the largest selection of draught beer taps in all of Manitoba.
Buses will transport fans from the King's Head out to the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex, home of the Wesmen, and bus transportation will also be offered following the conclusion of the match back to the King's Head, where fans are invited to celebrate at the post-game hub for Wesmen soccer.
The partnership will officially launch with the Wesmen women's soccer team's first home matches Sept. 14 (vs Fraser Valley) and Sept. 15 (vs Trinity Western).
The King's Head has been an Exchange District staple for more than 30 years inside a historic building that has stood in the same plot of land since its construction in 1896. The King's Head would become Winnipeg's go-to pub experience when it opened its doors in 1987 and to this day has remained the embodiment of a true-to-form English-style pub in the heart of the city.
"We are proud to partner with an iconic Winnipeg business as we continue to promote our Wesmen student-athletes," director of athletics Dave Crook said. "The King's Head has been a Winnipeg institution and a distinguished contributor to our vibrant city core for three decades, and as fellow stakeholders in our downtown, Wesmen Athletics is excited about the future growth and opportunities this partnership will provide."
The Wesmen open their 2018 Canada West conference season on the road Sept. 8-9 at Saskatchewan and Regina.
