Lakehead 64 Winnipeg 63
The Lakehead University Thunderwolves defeated the host University of Winnipeg Wesmen 64-63 in the opening game of the 2017 BOB FM Shootout in the Dr. David F. Anderson Gymnasium in Winnipeg.
Fourth year wing Bridget O'Reilly led the Thunderwolves with 20 points, including five-three pointers. Fifth year guard Antoinette Miller led Winnipeg with a game high 23 points and a team leading nine rebounds.
Winnipeg came out strong in the opening quarter building a lead of 16-8. The Wesmen went into the halftime break leading 27-21.
The Thunderwolves made their move in the second half, outscoring the Wesmen 43-36 to make the final tally 64-63.
Lakehead will play Manitoba Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., Winnipeg will take on UNBC Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
UNBC 89 Manitoba 77
The UNBC Timberwolves defeated the University of Manitoba 89-77 Friday afternoon at the BOB FM Shootout.
The duo of Maria Mongomo and Vasiliki Louka combined for 46 points to lead UNBC to their opening game victory. Mongomo scored a game high 24 points, with a pair of three-pointers. Louka was right behind with 22 points.
Nicole Konieczny led Manitoba with 12 points. Montana Kinzel and Brittanie Parisien each had 11.
UNBC led 23-21 after 10 minutes but opened up the game outscoring the Bisons 23-15 in the second to take a 43-36 lead into the halftime break.
UNBC will play the host Wesmen Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Manitoba will face Lakehead at 3:00 p.m.
Saturday, October 7
Winnipeg 69 UNBC 63
The host team University of Winnipeg Wesmen won their first game of the 99.9 BOB FM Shootout by posting a 69-63 victory over the UNBC Timberwolves Saturday afternoon.
Fifth year guard Antoinette Miller led all players with a game high 24 points, plus eight rebounds and four assists. First year player Jessica Dyck finished with 10 points and five rebounds.
Vasiliki Louka led UNBC with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Maria Mongomo also had a double-dopuble with 17 points and 10 boards. Alina Shakirova finished with 14.
Winnipeg was dominant in the opening half building a lead of 41-25 at the halftime break. UNBC made a charge in the second half outscoring the Wesmen 38-28 but fell short with the final score 69-63.
The Wesmen will wrap up the tournament against Manitoba Sunday at 12:00 p.m.. UNBC will face Lakehead at 10:00 a.m.
Lakehead 76 Manitoba 56
The Lakehead University Thunderwolves improved to 2-0 at the 99.9 BOB FM Shootout with a convincing 76-56 victory over the University of Manitoba Bisons.
Four Lakehead starters scored in double-digits led by Leashja Grant's game high 21 points. Bridget O'Reilly added 19 with five-three pointers. Lily Gruber-Schulz and Jerika Baldin each scoring 11.
Taylor Randall and Keziah Brothers led the Bisons with nine points each.
Lakehead went into the halftime break leading 44-32 and put the game out of reach in the third, outscoring the Bisons 19-7 to carry 63-39 lead into the final quarter.
Lakehead will face UNBC at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. Manitoba will play Winnipeg at 12:00 p.m.
Sunday, October 8
Lakehead 82 UNBC 62
The Lakehead University Thunderwolves completed play at the BOB FM Shootout with a perfect record after posting a decisive 82-62 victory over the UNBC Timberwolves Sunday morning in Winnipeg.
Lakehead opened play on Friday with a narrow 64-63 victory over Winnipeg and won their second game of the weekend on Saturday beating manitoba76-56.
Leashja Grant led the Thunderwolves with a game high 25 points. Grant was named the Tournament MVP for her efforts. Bridget O'Reilly was named a Tournament All-Star.
Vasiliki Louka led UNBC with 24 points and was also named to the Tournament All-Star team.
Winnipeg 77 Manitoba 71
The host team, the University of Winnipeg Wesmen wrapped up play at the BOB FM Shootout with a 77-71 victory over their cross town rivals the University of Winnipeg Wesmen Sunday afternoon.
Fifth year guard Antoinette Miller led the Wesmen with a game high 28 points. Miller was named to the Tournament All-Star team for her great play all weekend. Fifth year post Skylar Boulanger had a double-double 22 points and 15 rebounds.
Tournament All-Star Nicole Konieczny scored 20 points for Manitoba. Tayler randall also scored 20 points for the Bisons.
Manitoba led 18-14 after the opening quarter only to see Winnipeg close the gap in the second quarter, outscoring Manitoba 21-18 to trail 36-35 at halftime. Winnipeg outscored Manitoba 42-35 in the second half for the 77-71 victory.
Winnipeg finishes the tournament with a record of 2-1. Manitoba completes the tournament with a record of 0-3.
