WBB | Second-quarter swoom dooms Wesmen in loss to Pandas

EDMONTON — Deb Nkiasi led the Winnipeg Wesmen Friday night but the UWinnipeg women's basketball team dropped its first game of the Canada West season.

Nkiasi had 11 points and two steals, but the Wesmen were outscored 20-5 in a pivotal second quarter in a 64-49 Alberta Pandas win.

Winnipeg (2-1) took a 13-11 lead out of the first quarter but watched as the Pandas went on an 11-0 run to start the second. 

Srishti Suren had a career-high 10 points for the Wesmen, who shot 14-for-57 from the field and played without starters Faith Hezekiah, Anna Kernaghan and Mikayla Funk, who are all sidelined by injury. 

VAnessa Wild had a game-high 20 points to lead Alberta (2-1). Brooklyn Legault added 10.
