Tanya McKay

Tanya McKay was introduced as the fourth head coach in program history in 1996 and is now the longest-serving coach in the 50-year history of Wesmen women's basketball.

A native of Sackville, N.S., McKay is a member of the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame and in December 2018 became only the fifth coach in Canadian university basketball history with 500 wins.

McKay has compiled a record of 525-320 over two-plus decades and coached the team to a second-place finish at the 2005 national championship.

She was named the 2016-17 Canada West coach of the year and has coached a Nan Copp Award winner (JoAnne Smalls, 2004-05) and nine players to be named all-Canadians or major-award winners.

As a player, she was a three-time all-Canadian, three-time all-Great Plains and the GPAC's 1989 MVP. She won three national championships as a player with the Wesmen.

She is also a member of the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame.
