Installed as the interim head coach prior to the 2019-20 season, Hudson was named full-time head coach in March 2020.
In his first season coaching the Wesmen, Hudson led UWinnipeg to a 9-15 record in the Canada West conference and the program's first playoff appearance since 2011-12. It was also the first nine-win season for the Wesmen since 2012-13.
That season, the Wesmen led the Canada West in kills, assists and digs and their .158 team attack was their highest since hitting .178 as a team in 2011-12.
In 2019-20, Hudson's team pulled off a sweep of then No. 8-Thompson Rivers on Jan. 3, a sweep at UBC-Okanagan Jan. 10, which was the program's first win outside the province in four years, and a four-set win over Calgary Feb. 8 that eliminated the Dinos from the post-season.
Prior to Winnipeg, Hudson established himself as one of the most respected coaches in the province with a long record of success at the national, high school and club levels. In addition to eight years as an assistant with the Wesmen men's program, he spent 30 years as the varsity boys head coach at Dakota Collegiate, earning five provincial championships, three runner-up finishes and 16 final four qualifications.
Before Dakota, he was the varsity boys coach at West Kildonan Collegiate from 1981-1988 winning two provincial titles and qualifying for final four three times.Â
Hudson has also worked in the Canadian national program, first as a women's assistant in 2006 and again as the national women's junior team assistant in 2012.
He was named Manitoba Bisons men's head coach for one season in 2007-08 when head coach Garth Pischke went on sabbatical.
