After three spectacular performances in helping lead his team back to the national tournament, Shawn Maranan has been named the MBLL Wesmen athlete of the week.
Maranan, a fourth-year guard on the Wesmen men's basketball team, averaged 21 points and 12 assists at the Canada West conference tournament as the Wesmen made the tournament final and qualified for the Final 8 in Quebec City in the process.Â
Perhaps Maranan's finest effort came in a thrilling semifinal win on Saturday over Calgary where he scored 21 points and set a conference playoff record with 18 assists.
The following night, in a championship loss to No. 1-ranked Victoria, Maranan put up another double-double with a career-high 34 points and 10 assists.
For the weekend, Maranan shot 36 per cent from three and averaged four rebounds and two steals per game.Â
