After quarterbacking her team to a big sweep on the road, Naomi Unger has earned the MBLL Wesmen female athlete of the week.
Unger, a third-year setter on the women's volleyball team, paced the Wesmen to two victories over the Mount Royal Cougars in Calgary in which Winnipeg hit a collective .281, the team's top weekend attack rating of the season.Â
In a four-set win on Friday, Unger had 34 assists and added three kills, two blocks and five digs. The Wesmen attacked at .233 for the night with 46 kills.Â
The following night, Unger posted 39 assists — a three-set career-high — as the Wesmen rolled to a win with .352 attacking. They had 48 kills against just eight errors. Unger also had a kill and six digs.
On the season, the Kelvin High School graduate is ranked third in the Canada West and in all of U Sports in assists per set with 9.35
