In pacing the UWinnipeg men's basketball teams to two lopsided wins, Elijah Mensah has been named the MBLL Wesmen Male Athlete of the Week.

Mensah, a fifth-year forward out of Miles Macdonell Collegiate, averaged 25 points and shot nearly 70 per cent from the field as the Wesmen opened Canada West play with a win in Brandon and returned home to post a victory over Calgary in a non-conference game at the Duckworth Centre.

Friday in Brandon, Mensah scored a game- and career-high 26 points and also set a career-high with five steals as the Wesmen dominated the Bobcats, 95-65. Mensah shot 9-for-13 from the field and grabbed six rebounds.

The following night back in Winnipeg, the Wesmen earned an 84-59 win over the Dinos in the teams's final non-conference game behind 24 points from Mensah, who once again shot 9-for-13 from the floor. Mensah added five more rebounds.

The Wesmen are home on Friday to host the Manitoba Bisons at 8 p.m. at the Duckworth Centre.
