Box Score The University of Calgary Dinos came out on top for the second night in a row. Calgary defeated the Winnipeg Wesmen 88-55 Saturday night on the road in Calgary.
Calgary (2-0) defeated Winnipeg (0-2) 87-67 in the regular season opener Friday night.
Thomas Cooper led Calgary with 26 points and eight rebounds. Dallas Karch finished with 12.
Kuet Kuet led the Wesmen with a double-double, 16 points and 10 rebounds. Jamar Farley added nine. Ryan Oirbans was strong on the boards with 10 rebounds.
Both teams stepped onto the court with matched energy but it became apparent quickly that the Dinos would dominate. The Dinos were able to edge their rivals with strong ball movement and rebounding.
The game was relatively close at the halftime break with the Dinos ahead by a 43-33 margin.
Calgary broke the game open in the second half as they outscored the Wesmen 45-22 in the final 20 minutes.
The Dinos were able to shut down the Wesmen defensively by forcing them to take contested shots and scored 23 points off of 20 Wesmen turnovers by the end of the night. The vast majority of the game was characterized by Dino domination as they maintained more-or-less a 20 point lead throughout.
Calgary connected on 50% from the field while Winnipeg struggled at 31%. The Dinos out-rebounded Winnipeg 47-38.
Winnipeg will visit the Alberta Golden Bears next Friday and Saturday in Edmonton.
