T-Birds defeat Wesmen

he #7 ranked UBC Thunderbirds once again proved to be too much for the Winnipeg Wesmen as they steamroller to a 100-54 victory.

The T-Birds came out on with intensity, pressuring the Wesmen on every possession. Wesmen had no answer for the inspired UBC team. Fifth-year player Luca Zaharijevic was the driving force behind the T-Birds, going 5 for 7, scoring 10 points in the first quarter. The Wesmen managed to score only 4 points in the half and had dug themselves a very deep hole to make a comeback. At the quarter break, UBC was up 24 – 4.

The second quarter showed exactly the reason why UBC is ranked 7th in the country. The Thunderbirds scored 35 points in the second quarter and never looked back. At the half, UBC was up 59 -22.
In the end, the Thunderbirds cruised on to the 100 – 54 victory,

Marcello Kambola had 12 points for the Wesmen, followed by Narcisse Ambanza with 11 points. Rookie Don Dayrit added 8 points in a losing cause for Winnipeg.

Conor Morgan led the Birds with game highs of 22 points and 7 rebounds. Luca Zaharijevic was next in scoring for the T-birds with 16 points.

The Wesmen continue their home stand Friday night at 8 pm CST, when they take to the court against MacEwan.

The Thunderbirds return home to take on the Regina Cougars.
