Wesmen top MacEwen to move to 3-8

WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Wesmen used a 24-13 3rd quarter to push past the MacEwen Griffins and pick up a vital home victory on the final weekend of play in the first half of the2017-18 season.

The first twenty minutes was a high-scoring seesaw affair that for most of the twenty minutes saw the two teams trading baskets. Winnipeg held a 27-21 advantage after one and the gap was just four after twenty minutes, 49-45 Wesmen. The third quarter saw the hosts gap the visitors with some strong transitional play and their best defensive quarter of the game. The 4th quarter saw the two teams open up the game once again with MacEwen getting as close as 4, only to see the Wesmen down key free throws late to ice the victory.

Denzel Lynch-Blair and Narcisse Amabanza once again led the attack with 26 and 22 respectively; Sean Tarver added 13 in his first game back after injuring his ankle on the opening night of the regular season. Lynch-Blair, Tarver, Marcello Kambola and Will Sesay all had 5 rebounds for the Wesmen. Ryan Coleman was one of four Griffins in double figures with 26 points, Ali Raza had 13, Deonte Doslov-Doctor 12 and Jake Notice added 11, Coleman was the game's leading rebounder with 8.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow night with the game tipping off at 7 pm CST.
