Wesmen unable to secure first season sweep

Box Score

DAVID LARKINS, Wesmen Athletics

The Winnipeg Wesmen fell behind early and couldn't recover Saturday in their quest for their first series sweep of the Canada West season.

The Wesmen women's basketball team got another double-double from Faith Hezekiah, but couldn't come back after falling behind 22-13 after a quarter in a 76-63 loss to the Lethbridge Pronghorns.

Hezekiah had 25 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Wesmen (2-8), who trailed 39-28 at half and watched the Lethbridge lead balloon to as many as 23 at the end of the third.

The Wesmen got 12 points off the bench from Robyn Boulanger, but struggled shooting the ball, knocking down just five of 21 three-point attempts and shooting 38.5 per cent from the field.

Danielle Fritzke had 23 points off the bench to lead Lethbridge (5-3) and Katie Keith added 20.

The Wesmen will next play a home-and-home series with the Brandon Bobcats with the back-half of that series going Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Duckworth Centre.
