Box Score DAVID LARKINS, Wesmen Athletics
The Winnipeg Wesmen couldn't get its offence firing Friday, and dropped a straight-sets decision to the MacEwan Griffins.
The Wesmen women's volleyball team held the Griffins to .147 attacking but ultimately couldn't find the offence it needed in falling 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-22) to MacEwan in Edmonton.
The Wesmen hit .019 for the match — including -.114 and -.067 in the first and third sets — in falling to 3-8 on the season. Emma Parker had 10 kills and seven digs to lead the Wesmen while Jess Friesen added eight kills.
Hailey Cornelis and McKenna Stevenson led the Griffins (6-5) with eight kills apiece.
"I thought our effort was pretty good," Wesmen head coach Diane Scott said. "We tried to do some different things tonight that were working for us, but at the end of the day too many unforced errors in some key situations.
"But we battled and they're a very good team. Their middle offence is very good. It's very dynamic and quick. We knew that coming in. That was their bread and butter, but they have a very good team. They did a good job defensively as well. Their setter runs a good show."
