Box Score As the final month of the season approaches, the Winnipeg Wesmen men's volleyball team is in a dogfight for playoff position.
The Wesmen dropped their second straight match and third of 2019 on Saturday, losing 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-22) decision to the Calgary Dinos Saturday night in Calgary.
The loss puts Winnipeg's record at 5-9 on the season, while Calgary improved to 7-7 four points clear of the Wesmen in the Canada West standings. Calgary moved into seventh and Manitoba (6-8) sits in the eighth and final playoff position. The Wesmen and Bisons will meet in a home-and-home series Feb. 1-2.
Adrian Dyck had a match-high 16 kills on 38 swings to lead the Wesmen, who hit .222 for the match, including a .387 mark in the third set. Daniel Thiessen added 10 kills on 15 swings and five digs.
Mikael Clegg had a match-high 33 assists for Winnipeg.
Tim Taylor's 14 kills paced the Dinos, who hit .284 for the night.
The Wesmen are into a bye week this weekend before taking on the No. 1-ranked Brandon Bobcats at home on Jan. 24. The two teams will then meet in Brandon on Jan. 26.
