Wesmen can't close out bid for upset at TWU

The Winnipeg Wesmen women's basketball team's quest for a road upset came up short Friday in a 60-57 loss to the Trinity Western Spartans. 

Faith Hezekiah had a team-high 20 points and freshman Mikayla Funk had a career-high 13 rebounds as the Wesmen fell to 4-9 on the season with the loss at Langley, B.C.

It was Funk's first double-digit rebound game of her career and she also grabbed a career-high five offensive boards. 

Trailing by as many as 13 in the third quarter, the Wesmen tore off a 20-2 run starting with 6:33 to go in the third. The Wesmen held the Spartans to a lone lay-up in a span of 7:51 that staked Winnipeg to a temporary five-point lead. 

The Wesmen led 55-51 with 2:12 to go, but gave up seven straight points to fall behind 58-55 with 42 seconds left. Robyn Boulanger's lay-up with 31 seconds left pull the Wesmen to within one.

Boulanger scored 16 off the bench and Jessica Dyck added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Tessa Ratzlaff had a game-high 27 off the bench for Trinity Western (8-3).
