WBB | Offence struggles in Wesmen loss to Alberta

Box Score

EDMONTON — Sophomore Jillian Duncan posted her first career double-double but an injury-ravaged Winnipeg Wesmen women's basketball team couldn't find enough offence in a loss to the Alberta Pandas Saturday night.

Duncan posted 12 points and 10 rebounds — both career-highs — but the Wesmen dropped their second straight game, 65-37 to the host Pandas.

The Wesmen played without starters Faith Hezekiah, Mikayla Funk and Anna Kernaghan for the second straight night.

Alberta jumped out to a 19-7 first-quarter lead and led 37-25 at the half. The Pandas held Winnipeg (2-2) to 12-for-48 shooting from the field and 2-for-15 from three.

The Pandas (3-1) scored 30 points off 32 Wesmen turnovers. Vanessa Wild topped the Pandas with 13 points and Megan Tywoniuk added 12. Alberta wasn't spectacular shooting the ball either, going 23-for-63 from the field and 9 of 31 from three.

The Wesmen are back on the road again next weekend taking on the Regina Cougars. The status of the three injured players is still unknown, but Hezekiah will be out indefinitely.
