MBB | Wesmen can't close out on the road, lose in 2 OTs

Box Score

REGINA — A last-gasp shot in regulation didn't drop and the Winnipeg Wesmen men's basketball team went on to lose its conference-opener Friday night.

Brayden Kuski had 18 points to lead six Regina Cougars in double figures and the hosts hung on to beat the Wesmen 90-82 in a Canada West conference opener.

The Wesmen had a chance to win it in regulation, but a turnover with under a minute to go led Regina to the game-tying layup and, 40 seconds later, an Eric Racine desperation shot on the fastbreak as time expired rimmed out to force overtime.

Don Dayrit had 21 points to lead the Wesmen, who got 16 points from Spas Nikolov and nine points and nine rebounds from Shawn Maranan

The Wesmen went 31-for-84 from the field and shot 26 per cent from three. Regina was 30-for-83 and 9-for-36 from three.

Ben Hillis and Carter Millar had 15 points apiece for Regina, while Nick Barnard, Majok Madol and Matt Barnard each had 12 points. Millar had a game-high 17 rebounds and Madol added 10.
