Box Score REGINA — It was a sweep 25 years in the making and the Winnipeg Wesmen are 2-0 thanks to it.
Faith Hezekiah scored a season-high 33 points and the Wesmen women's basketball team pulled away from the Regina Cougars for a 92-77 Canada West conference victory to sweep the weekend series.
It was the first time since January 1996 the Wesmen had swept the Cougars in a weekend series in Regina.
Hezekiah hit five of seven three-pointers and was 12-for-18 from the field in leading four UWinnipeg players in double digits.
Kyanna Giles fell two assists short of a triple-double, notching 21 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, while adding four steals against her former team.
Keylyn Filewch had 13 points and 11 rebounds and Robyn Boulanger added 12 points for the Wesmen, who return home to play a home-and-home with the Manitoba Bisons.
Winnipeg shot a season-best 41.7 per cent from three.
Faith Reid and Julia Vydrova both had 13 points to lead the Cougars (0-2), Eden Wells added 11 and Dayna Pearce 10.
Regina was held to 38.4 per cent shooting.
The Wesmen head to U of M on Friday and host the Bisons on Saturday (6 p.m.).
