The Winnipeg Wesmen got a dose of good vibes heading into an extended break.
Spas Nikolov scored a career-high 23 points on 10-for-12 shooting and the Wesmen men's basketball team won its second straight game Saturday, defeating the Brandon Bobcats 83-79 in a Canada West conference game in Brandon.
The Wesmen swept the home-and-home series with the Bobcats to improve to 3-3 heading into a two-week layoff. The two teams will meet again Dec. 2 and 4 in Brandon and at the Duckworth Centre before breaking for the holidays.
Don Dayrit also had 23 for the Wesmen, who held on for the win despite being outscored 21-14 in the fourth quarter. The Wesmen held a 42-36 lead at the half and eventually extended that advantage to as many as 10 thanks to a 12-3 midway through the third quarter.
Shawn Maranan scored 19 points and chipped in with six assists and four rebounds. Eric Racine had a season-high 10 rebounds.
Anthony Tsegakele had 21 points and 14 rebounds as the Bobcats fell to 0-4 on the season. Jahmaal Gardner added 15 points, Dominique Dennis 12 and Sultan Haider Bhatti 10.
