BRANDON — Down one all-star starter, the Winnipeg Wesmen were still able to turn things over to their bench in yet another lopsided win Thursday night. 

Keylyn Filewich had 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead three Wesmen in double figures in scoring and the Wesmen women's basketball team stayed perfect in the Canada West with an 88-62 win over the Brandon Bobcats in the Wheat City.

Faith Hezekiah added 21 points for the Wesmen, who have yet to lose a conference or non-conference game in 2021. 

Ranked No. 1 in the U Sports coaches polls and No. 6 in the U Sports ELO metric, the Wesmen played without all-Canadian Kyanna Giles and were also without freshmen Alyssa Porco and Priscilla Sanusi. 

Filewich finished 10-for-13 from the field and added four steals for the Wesmen, who led 49-31 at half and then opened the third quarter on an 8-2 run. 

Anna Kernaghan hit her first four three-pointers and scored all 12 of her points before half, including a triple that beat the buzzer to end the first quarter. 

Jillan Duncan had a career-high 15 rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench.

It was far from perfect for Winnipeg, however, which turned the ball over 21 times and shot 41 per cent from the free-throw line. 

Reeta Tulkki's 22 points led the Bobcats (0-7), Sydney Latrace added 11 off the bench, and Chelsea Misskey chipped in 10. 

The two teams will meet again Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Duckworth Centre.
