Seeking a sweep, the Winnipeg Wesmen instead settled for a split.

The Wesmen women's basketball team committed 26 turnovers, which led to 30 Saskatchewan points, and suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling 69-53 to the Huskies in a Canada West conference game Saturday at the Duckworth Centre.

The Wesmen were seeking their 12th straight win to start the season and their second straight win over the Huskies, but settled for one out of two as both teams exited the weekend with identical 11-1 records. 

Faith Hezekiah led the Wesmen with 21 points, six rebounds and went 3-for-6 from three, but the Wesmen never truly got untracked, trailing 16-8 after the first quarter and 37-25 at the half.

Kyanna Giles added 18 points and nine rebounds as she and Hezekiah accounted for 74 per cent of the team's total, which was a season-low for the nation's top-scoring team.

Winnipeg's 26 turnovers matched a season-high and certainly didn't help in a game where the Huskies didn't seem particularly poised to pull away. Saskatchewan shot a less-than-stellar 38.5 per cent from the field and only 7 of 24 from three, and lost the rebounding battle 48-37, giving up 18 offensive boards in the process. 

The Wesmen, however, weren't ready to take advantage, shooting a season-low 33.9 per cent from the field and a forgettable 4 of 13 from the free-throw line.

Andrea Dodig led the visitors with 16 points. Summer Masikewich added 14 and nine rebounds, Katriana Philipenko chipped in 13 and Libby Epoch managed 10.
