For the second straight night, the Winnipeg Wesmen started hot and finished cold in a four-set defeat.
The Fraser Valley Cascades used a pivotal seven-point run in the third set and eventually prevailed with a 3-1 (19-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-22) Canada West women's volleyball victory Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre.
The story was similar to Friday night's four-set loss in which the Wesmen got ahead early only to watch Fraser Valley come back to win.
On Saturday, the match took a critical turn in the third set with the Wesmen leading 23-18 and looking poised to take the driver's seat in the match. But the Cascades registered four kills and an ace in a seven-point swing that gave them the third set and delivered a punch to the stomach of the home side.
Emma Parker rebounded with 16 kills and match-high 21 digs a night after registering a career-low one kill.
Ashleigh Laube added 14 kills and 16 digs, and
Taylor Cangemi had 16 digs.
The Wesmen hit .181 for the night and were a proficient .238 and .293 in the final two sets.
Gabrielle Attieh had a match-high 22 kills plus 15 digs to lead the Cascades (4-4), and Lauren Attieh added 15 kills with 17 digs. Libero Emily Matsui had 19 digs.
Fraser Valley hit .233 for the match and, after hitting .023 in the first set, didn't hit lower than .292 the rest of the way.
