Perhaps the holiday break is coming at the right time for the Winnipeg Wesmen.
The Wesmen men's volleyball team had its roughest outing of the Canada West conference season and dropped a 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-16) decision to the Brandon Bobcats Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre.Â
The Wesmen -.070 for the night, just the third time in the past six seasons they've hit in a negative for the match and first since the 2019 season.Â
But the Bobcats kept Winnipeg at bay all night, registering nine total blocks and 40 digs to Winnipeg's 33.Â
The result gave the Bobcats the season sweep over Winnipeg as both teams moved to 6-6 heading into the holiday break. The Wesmen won't play again until a Jan. 6-7 series at Mount Royal.Â
Five Wesmen players hit in the negatives with
Nigel Nielsen's six kills leading the way.
Thomas Bridle had five, and
Darian Picklyk had a match-high 11 digs.Â
Ben Traa provided a spark off the bench, hitting a team-high .333 with three kills, two aces and three digs.
Max Brook led the Bobcats with 10 kills and eight digs. Brandon hit .243 in winning its fourth straight and fifth of the past six.Â
