CALGARY —
Liam Kristjanson had 10 kills and hit .500, but the Winnipeg Wesmen will be left seeking a split on Saturday.
The Calgary Dinos hit .368 on the night and handed the Wesmen men's volleyball team a 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-18) defeat in a Canada West conference match Friday night at the Jack Simpson Gymnasium.
The Wesmen and Dinos both moved to 6-9 on the season as the race for the top eight in the conference begins to heat up. The Wesmen, Dinos and Manitoba Bisons are all tied for eighth with identical records.
The Wesmen hit .348 in the first set but a key four-point run that broke a 16-16 tie tilted things the Dinos' direction.
In the second set, the Dinos were able to string together two four-out-of-five-point swings to take control. And in the third set, Calgary got out early, breaking a 2-2 tie by winning seven of the next eight points and not allowing Winnipeg to get closer than four points the rest of the way.
The Wesmen hit .157 for the match and mustered just one service ace on the night.
Erik Godwin, Louis Kunstmann, and Liam Kuppe each had seven kills to lead the Dinos.
