CALGARY — It's hard to win in Calgary. It's hard to win twice in Calgary. And the Winnipeg Wesmen are all too familiar after Saturday night.
The Calgary Dinos wiped out an 18-point deficit and dominated the second half en route to an 87-70 Canada West conference win over the Wesmen men's basketball team at the Jack Simpson Gymnasium.
The Wesmen were looking to earn both ends of the weekend doubleheader after winning on Friday and snapping a 10-year winless drought against the Dinos.
But the Dinos outscored the Wesmen 56-25 in the second half, holding the visitors to just eight points in the fourth quarter.
Mikhail Mikhailov posted his second straight double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds, but the Wesmen struggled mightily after taking a 45-31 lead into halftime.
Shawn Maranan had 11 points with 10 assists, and
Paul Francisco had 13 points off the bench.
The Wesmen shot 38.2 per cent from the field, 36.4 per cent from three, and were just 6-for-11 from the free throw line.
Mason Foreman's 23 points and 13 rebounds lead the Dinos (5-7). Alan Spoonhunter added 19, Jeffrey Tezo 15, Ezeoha Santiago 11 and Noah Warton 10.
The Wesmen (7-3) remain in third place in the Canada West and now return home for a weekend series against the Regina Cougars Friday and Saturday.
