CALGARY —
Raizel Guinto put up the kind of numbers the Winnipeg Wesmen knew they could get when they recruited her in the off-season.
The fifth-year transfer had a career-high 25 points and the Wesmen women's basketball team battled to a weekend split with an 88-84 win over the Calgary Dinos Saturday night.
Guinto, who played four seasons at NCAA Division I Louisiana Tech, added eight rebounds, five assists and four steals in lifting the Wesmen to their eighth win in 10 conference games on the season.
Julia Schatkowsky had her third double-double of the season with a career-high 21 points and 10 rebounds. It was the third straight game the fifth-year forward has grabbed double-digit rebounds and the sixth time this season.
Kyanna Giles had 15 points, six steals and four assists, and
Robyn Boulanger chipped in with 10 points.
The Dinos took a 25-21 lead after a quarter with Giles forced to sit with three quick fouls. The Wesmen, however, connected on 10 of 19 from the field in the second quarter and carried a 48-46 lead at the break.
Madison Landry led Calgary with 17 points and Annacy Palmer finished with 14. Bobbi Jo Colburn and Mya Proctor scored 11 and 10, respectively.
The Wesmen held Calgary to 28 per cent shooting from three and won despite being outrebounded 47-35.
Calgary committed 26 turnovers, which the Wesmen turned into 25 points.
The Wesmen return home for a huge weekend Friday and Saturday when they take on the conference-leading Regina Cougars.
