KELOWNA, B.C. — The Winnipeg Wesmen spread the ball around and scored a big win on Opening Night.
Liam Kristjanson had a match-high 12 kills and the Wesmen men's volleyball team opened the Canada West conference season with a 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-12, 25-19) win over the UBC-Okanagan Heat Friday night.
Kristjanson hit .308 and the Wesmen attacked at .291 for the match as the Wesmen won their season-opener for the seventh straight year.
Isaiah Olfert had 10 kills and seven digs in his Wesmen conference debut.
Ethan Duncan, who served as an assistant coach last season and was playing his first conference match since 2020, had eight kills on 14 swings with no errors while adding three solo blocks.
Setter
Alex Krykewich had a team-high nine digs for Winnipeg, which had 43 as a team compared to UBCO's 33.
Renn Petryk led the Heat with 10 kills as UBCO hit .102 for the night. The Heat were held to -.261 in the third set and .069 in the fourth.
The Wesmen rolled out by hitting .545 in the first set and then went .429 in the third.
