The Winnipeg Wesmen will have to recover quickly as they navigate through arguably the toughest part of their schedule.
The Wesmen women's volleyball team found itself in early deficits it couldn't shake and wound up dropping a 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-22) Canada West conference decision to the undefeated Trinity Western Spartans Saturday night at the Duckworth Centre.
Trinity improved to 4-0 while the Wesmen dropped to 1-3 and now await the UBC Thunderbirds coming to town next weekend to conclue a three-week stretch of some of the toughest programs in Canada West.
Kaylee Plouffe had 11 kills and Maryn Boldon 10 for the Spartans, who hit .227 for the night and held the Wesmen to .149.
The Wesmen fell behind 6-0 and later 16-10 in the first set yet managed to get back in the contest, eventually tying the set at 22.
In Set 2, Winnipeg fell behind 13-9 and 16-11, and again rallied but was only able to get to 22-21 before the Spartans scored three of the next four.
And, in Set 3, the Wesmen held a 20-17 edge before the Spartans scored three straight to tie it. After a
Brooke Duncalfe kill made it 22-21 Winnipeg, the Spartans went on a four-point run to close the match.
Duncalfe led the Wesmen with 13 kills and
Taylor Cangemi had a match-high 10 digs.
