Box Score After clamping down for three quarters, the Winnipeg Wesmen couldn't keep the Lakehead Thunderwolves down for 10 minutes more.
The Thunderwolves scored 28 fourth-quarter points and erased a 14-point deficit in the second half to deal the Wesmen men's basketball team an 85-84 non-conference defeat Thursday night at the Investors Group Athletic Centre.
The Wesmen fell to 2-1 on the pre-season and will face the McMaster Marauders on Friday at 3 p.m. at the IGAC.
Winnipeg led 51-37 in the second half and looked to be taking control after a back-and-forth first half in which the Wesmen trailed by as many as eight.
Mikhail Mikhailov had 23 points — 17 in the first half — and 10 rebounds for his second double-double in three pre-season outings. Fellow Spaniard
Alberto Gordo also had 23 and chipped in with nine assists.
Donald Stewart scored 13 points and Emmanuel Stewart eight.
Shawn Maranan was held to five points on 1-for-8 shooting, but had eight assists.
Nathan Bilamu had 16 points to lead Lakehead, which improved to 3-0 in the pre-season after two previous wins over Algoma.Â
Lakehead's bench outscored Winnipeg's 23-12 as the Wesmen weren't able to get much in the way of secondary scoring.
The Wesmen hit just five of 24 from three and finished the game shooting 50.7 per cent from the field, fuelled largely by 58 points in the paint.Â
The Thunderwolves shot 41.3 per cent from the field, but went 11-for-31 from three.
