MBB | Wesmen rebound by manhandling Mac

The Winnipeg Wesmen bounced back in a big way Friday afternoon.

Alberto Gordo and Donald Stewart led a balanced attack and the Wesmen men's basketball team won its third pre-season game, defeating the McMaster Marauders 86-69 at the Investors Group Athletic Centre.

Gordo and Stewart both had 15 points to lead four players in double figures for the Wesmen, who rebounded from a one-point loss to Lakehead a night earlier. Gordo added seven rebounds and Stewart six.

Nine players got on the score sheet with at least a field goal with Shawn Maranan having a season-high 14 points while adding seven assists, five rebounds and four steals. Malachi Alexander chipped in with 12 points.

The Wesmen left little to chance with their play in the first quarter, bombing the Marauders from the opening tip: An 8-2 run led to a 21-10 lead after 10 minutes, and they followed that with a 31-17 second quarter.

Winnipeg's starting five finished shooting 55 per cent from the field and were five-for-nine from three.

Kazim Raza scored 14 points off the bench for McMaster, which suffered a defeat at the hands of the Manitoba Bisons on Thursday night in a game in which they held a nine point lead in the final three minutes.

No other Marauder scored in double figures.
