Box Score KELOWNA, B.C. — First-half struggles led to a season-opening loss Friday for the Winnipeg Wesmen.
The Wesmen women's basketball team was held to 16 first-half points and eventually fell 89-48 to the UBCO Heat in the Canada West conference-opener for both teams.
Carmen Hiebert led the Wesmen with 10 points and
Raia Guinto added nine.
The Wesmen, however, were held to 24.2 per cent shooting on the game including 2-for-18 from three.
UBCO outrebounded the Wesmen 55-47 with Winnipeg holding the edge on the offensive glass, 16-15.
Sofia Ainsa Lluch and Jaeli Ibbetson led the Heat with 16 points and Ibbetson added 12 rebounds. Kelsey Falk also had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Lauren Foullong scored 13 off the bench and added a game-high six assists.
The Heat led 41-16 at the half and shot 40.7 per cent from three.

Canada West TV.
