Alberto Gordo had 22 points and all 12 Wesmen players hit the scoresheet in an impressive 106-72 Canada West conference victory over the UBCO Heat Friday night.
After scoring at least 100 points three times last season, the Wesmen hit the century mark in their season debut. They led 32-19 after a quarter and 57-30 at the half, a dominating effort from the pre-season No. 3 team in the Canada West.
The win extended Winnipeg's string of victories against the Heat to seven, dating back to 2012.
Gordo scored his game-high total in just 19 minutes played on an efficient 8-for-12 shooting while adding eight rebounds. He also hit 3 of 6 from three.
Mikhail Mikhailov added 14 points and eight rebounds in 21 minutes of action as head coach
Mike Raimbault was able to spread the minutes around the roster.
Freshman
Noah Kankam had a career-high 13 points off the bench and
Elijah Mensah scored 12 with six rebounds.
The Wesmen outrebounded UBCO 56-37.
Winnipeg finished the game 41 of 81 from the field while shooting 34.6 per cent from three.
The Wesmen held the Heat to 34.7 per cent from the field and 27.8 per cent from three.
Jalen Shirley had 22 points to lead the Heat, while Gavin Ashworth scored 20. Jas Dhudwal dropped 10.
