SASKATOON — The Winnipeg Wesmen will search for a split on Saturday night.
The No. 5-ranked Wesmen men's volleyball team couldn't overcome a two-set deficit and ultimately fell to the Saskatchewan Huskies 3-1 (25-23, 25-17, 22-25, 25-23) in a Canada West conference match Friday night.
The Wesmen fell to 6-5 on the season as No. 4-ranked Saskatchewan improved to 9-2 and moved a half-match behind Alberta for first place in the conference.
Winnipeg held a lead in the first set at 22-20 but gave up four straight points. In Set 2, the Huskies took an 8-7 lead and won five of the next six points to pull away.
In Set 3, the Wesmen won six of eight points early on to take a 10-4 lead and led by as many as six as they eventually held on to keep the match alive.
Isaiah Olfert hit .412 and led the Wesmen with 18 kills and three aces with six digs.
Nigel Nielsen added 12 kills and
Liam Kristjanson had nine.
Emmett Graham led the Huskies with 17 and Isaiah Mamer added 16.
The Wesmen hit .221 for the night and Saskatchewan attacked at .248.
