WBB | Wesmen can't slow down steamrolling Sask

A Canada West juggernaut continued its march through the conference Friday night.

Tea DeMong and Gage Grassic both topped 20 points and the No. 2-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies women's basketball team scored an 89-40 win over the Winnipeg Wesmen in a Canada West conference game at the Duckworth Centre.

The Huskies shot 10-for-24 from three and improved to 9-0 on the season, remaining one of only two teams in the conference with an undefeated record.

The Wesmen (1-8) lost their seventh straight game and were held to under 10 points in each of the second, third and fourth quarters.

Freshman Jazmin Birch had a career-high 10 points off the bench to lead the Wesmen. Raia Guinto added nine with two steals.

The Wesmen went 4-for-21 from three and 15-for-62 from the field.

The Huskies, meanwhile, shot 31-for-70 from the field and outrebounded Winnipeg 52-34.

DeMong's 23 points paced the Huskies, who led 29-14 after a quarter and 50-23 at half. Grassic chipped in with 21 and Carly Ahlstrom added 12 with nine rebounds and five blocks.

The two teams meet again Saturday at 7 p.m. CT in a game that can be see on Canada West TV.
