WBB | Slow start plagues Wesmen in loss to Pandas

The Alberta Pandas got out early and never looked back in a decisive win over the Winnipeg Wesmen Saturday night.

The Pandas held the Wesmen without a field goal in the first quarter and rolled to a 76-32 Canada West conference win in the Duckworth Centre.

The Wesmen had just one made field goal in the first 20 minutes and went into halftime down 37-8. 

Winnipeg (3-11) was held to 19.4 per cent shooting on the night and the Wesmen made only three of 23 from three. 

Alberta (9-3) shot 39.2 per cent from the field and 10 of 27 from three. 

Tamiya Ness paced the Wesmen with 10 points and five rebounds. She shot 4 of 8 from the field and made 2 of 4 from three. 

Jenna Harpe led four Pandas in double figures with 21 points, Ella Rees had 18 off the bench. Morgan Harris dropped 11 with 14 rebounds, and Claire Signatovich scored 10 with 11 boards. 

The Pandas won the rebounding battle 55-42.
