One of the toughest road trips in the Canada West conference produced two losses for the Winnipeg Wesmen on the weekend.
The Wesmen women's soccer team took its final road trip of the season and suffered 4-0 defeats to the MacEwan Griffins on Saturday and Alberta Pandas on Sunday.
Saturday at MacEwan, Grace Mwasalla became the 15th player in Canada West women's soccer history to score 30 career goals as the No. 9-ranked Griffins improved to 8-1-1 and stayed in a share of first place in the Prairie Division.
It was MacEwan's sixth straight victory after starting the season 1-1-1.
Sophie Lavallee, in time added on in the first half, opened the scoring and Mwasalla followed in the 56th minute. Anneke Odinga and Bryn Mortensen, in the 77th minute, rounded out the scoring.
Camille Forbes made a career-high 18 saves in the Wesmen goal. That is one off the Wesmen program record of 19 set by
Madison Priebe in 2023.
On Sunday, the Pandas improved to 6-3-1 to stay in third place in the Prairie on the strength of two goals each from Emily Duxbury and Adrienne Poulin.
The Pandas did all their scoring before halftime with Duxbury getting started in the fifth minute followed by Poulin's first of the day in the 12th. Duxbury would score again in the 17th and Poulin finished it out with a goal in the 25th.
Forbes made 12 saves. Her 30 saves were a career-high for a weekend.
The Wesmen are back home Thursday to kick off the annual Duckworth Derby with the Manitoba Bisons. The match beginis at 7 p.m. at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex.
