KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The Winnipeg Wesmen looked upset-minded to start the night but ultimately couldn't keep up with one of Canada West's top teams.
The Wesmen women's volleyball team held three set points in the first but couldn't put the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack away, ultimately dropping a 3-0 (28-26, 25-16, 25-22) conference match Friday night.
The Wesmen (5-6) opened a 6-1 lead to start the night, but watched TRU (9-2) claw back with nine of the next 11 points to take the lead. The Wolfpack would go on to lead by as many as three and held a 22-20 edge, as well, before the Wesmen ripped off four of the next five to earn the first of three set points for the first.
Winnipeg couldn't close it out at 24-23, 25-24 or 26-25.
The Wesmen then hit .045 in the second set as the Wolfpack took control of the match. Winnipeg improved to .258 in the third set and threatened the home team again with a three-point run that tied the set at 22 before TRU went on a three-point run of its own to close it out.
Grace Vallis led the Wesmen eight kills on 12 swings, hitting .583 with four block assists.
Selva Planincic added eight kills and also had four block assists.

Breanne Bazin, had a career-high 15 assists and career-high five digs.
Brooklyn Olfert paced TRU with 13 kills and Rida Erlaleitep chipped in with 12.
