MBB: Wesmen pull away in fourth to drop Cougars

REGINA — A dominant fourth quarter gave the Winnipeg Wesmen a key sweep on the road Saturday night.

The Wesmen men's basketball team outscored Regina 25-13 in the fourth and won going away, posting a 78-61 win over the Cougars to sweep the weekend series.

It was Winnipeg's fifth straight win of the season and sixth straight over the Cougars. It was also Winnipeg's fourth straight win in Regina.

Lamar Everd led four Winnipeg players in double figures with 14 points. Alberto Gordo added 13, Shawn Maranan 12 and Ryan Luke 11.

The Wesmen built a 36-23 lead at the half but the Cougars crept back in trimming a 16-point deficit down to five at the end of the third. Winnipeg, however, scored the first six points to start the fourth and pushed its lead back into double digits and the Cougars wouldn't get closer than eight the rest of the way.

The Wesmen matched a season-low with just eight turnovers, while forcing the Cougars into 18 miscues.

Ben Kamba's 18 points led the Cougars. Christian Tabiri had 13 off the bench, Jamie White added 12 and Lodie Kenyi 11.
