SASKATOON — A key three-point run in the third set gave the Saskatchewan Huskies the upper hand over the Winnipeg Wesmen.
The Huskies turned a 23-22 deficit into a third-set win and eventually went on to defeat the Wesmen 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-23, 25-21) in a Canada West conference match Friday night.
After Winnipeg (2-3) went ahead on a
Jaxon Rose kill, the Huskies got two kills from Emmett Graham as part of a run of three straight points that gave the Huskies a 2-1 edge in sets.
The teams played the fourth set back and forth, with Winnipeg scoring back-to-back points to tie it at 20. The Huskies, however, would run off five of the next six and seal the match.
Rose, the team's leading attacker through four matches coming into Friday, once again led the way with 17 kills on 30 swings to hit .467. He also added six digs and an ace.
Luke Lodewyks added 12 kills and seven digs.
The Wesmen had a season-high 21 service errors and hit at .259 as a team, the fourth time in five matches they have hit at least .250.
Graham posted a match-high 19 kills and the Huskies also got 12 from Isaiah Mamer. Saskatchewan hit .292 for the match, including .619 in the first.
