The Winnipeg Wesmen had a thrilling answer to get a much-needed victory.
The Wesmen women's volleyball team pulled off a reverse sweep and went on to win a 3-2 (24-26, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 15-12) in a Canada West conference match at the Duckworth Centre.
The win snapped a three-match win streak as the Wesmen (3-8) look to make a move up the Canada West table in pursuit of a playoff spot.
Taylor Cangemi had a season-high 23 digs — two off her career-high — as the Wesmen had a season-high 91 digs, their highest total since February 2023.
After making 18 attack errors in the first two sets, the Wesmen made only 14 the rest of the way while holding MacEwan to .111 over the final three sets.
Brooke Duncalfe's season-high 21 kills led the Wesmen. The third-year left side also added 14 digs. Emily Lavallee had 16 kills and hit a season-high .560 with two aces and three blocks.
Megan Kendziora had a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs, and Ella Werbiski was the other Wesmen with double-digit digs with 12.
Winnipeg hit .182 on the night including .217 in the final three sets.
Kara Frith led MacEwan (4-7) with 20 kills and Alyshia Bryks added 11.
