The Winnipeg Wesmen couldn't find a way to slow down one of the hottest teams in the country Friday night.
Four Regina players scored in double figures and the undefeated Cougars posted an 83-56 Canada West conference win over the Wesmen in women's basketball action at the Duckworth Centre.Â
The Wesmen were behind the eight ball early on with a 23-10 deficit after the first quarter and a more competitive second quarter still left them behind 39-24 at the half.Â
The Cougars pushed their lead to as many as 19 with 7:18 to go in the second quarter, but the Wesmen put together a 12-5 run to cut the deficit to 36-24 with under 90 seconds to go.Â
The gap remained at 12 a couple minutes into the third quarter before the Cougars tore off a 10-0 that pushed Regina's edge to 53-31 four minutes later.
Jennifer Kallon had 13 points and seven rebounds to lead the way for Winnipeg (2-11) while making six of eight from the field. She also added two steals.Â
Raia Guinto scored 11 points.
Cara Misskey scored 18 points and added seven rebounds and four assists and set the Regina program record for assists in a season in the process.Â
Jade Bellmore had 17 points, Eden Wells 15 and Izzi Fust 13.Â
