WBB: Bobcats frustrate in fourth as Wesmen fall in Wheat City

BRANDON — A fourth-quarter flop led the Winnipeg Wesmen to a road loss Friday night.

The Brandon Bobcats outscored the Wesmen 25-16 to blow a close game wide open and handed the Wesmen an 80-70 Canada West women's basketball defeat at the Healthy Living Centre.

The Wesmen were also outscored 30-16 in the second quarter, which mitigated a hot Winnipeg start that took the visitors out to a lead that grew to as many as 14 points in the first quarter.

However, the Bobcats, who trailed 39-29 with just under five minutes left in the first half, went on a 14-2 run and then went into halftime up 47-44.

After a third quarter in which both teams combined to shoot 6-for-36 from the field and the Wesmen outscored the Bobcats 10-8, Brandon tore off a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter and the Wesmen were held without a point for the first 4:05 of the final period.

Jennifer Kallon led three Wesmen in double digits with 16 points while adding three steals and three rebounds. Raia Guinto scored 11 and Jennifer Edwards added 10 points, six rebounds and six assists.

Piper Ingalls led all scorers with 26 points and Ella Averill scored 22.
