Laval holds off pesky Algoma squad to earn chance at 5th

The Laval Rouge et Or are moving on to the fifth-place game of the Wesmen Classic after holding off the Algoma Thunderbirds Thursday night. 

Sidney Tremblay-Lacombe scored a game-high 19 points and the RSEQ's Rouge et Or hung on to beat the Thunderbirds 71-67 in a consolation semfinal at the Duckworth Centre.

The Rouge et Or will move on to play the Alberta Golden Bears in the fifth-place game on Friday. 

Steeve Joseph had 17 points, Ismael Diouf 11 and Loic Savard 10 to help Laval to its first win at the Classic. 

The Thunderbirds held the Rouge et Or to 11 points in the fourth quarter to chip away at a deficit that reached 16 points at 66-50 with 3:24 to go. The Rouge et Or were held to two points over the next three minutes as the Thunderbirds cut it to five with 24 seconds left.

Johan Germain led the Thunderbirds with 18 points, and Devin Joseph added 15 and nine rebounds. Taleh Wade and Roman Niro both scored 12. 

Algoma will face Manitoba in the seventh-place game Friday.
