WVB | Improved performance not enough to carry Wesmen

Box Score

EDMONTON — The Winnipeg Wesmen are going to have to shake off a winless weekend heading into two crucial conference matches.

The Wesmen women's volleyball team lost its second straight match Saturday, dropping a 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-22) Canada West conference decision to the Alberta Pandas.

The Wesmen (2-6) next face the Manitoba Bisons in a key home-and-home series that starts Friday at the Duckworth Centre and concludes Saturday at the U of M.

Taylor Boughton and Ashleigh Laube both had eight kills to lead the Wesmen, who got 13 digs from Madison Fyvie, 12 from Kalena Schulz and 10 from Rylie Dickson.

"We did a little bit better defending their veteran attackers and overall we were in two of the three sets right from the get-go," Wesmen head coach Phil Hudson said. "I thought we played a lot better, a lot more battle, a lot more fight and a lot more determination from our group tonight."

The Wesmen hit .132 for the match, but went at a .325 clip in the second set.

Alberta hit .314 for the night. Kory White led the Pandas (4-4) with 16 kills and 12 digs.
