MBB | Wesmen wipe out first-half deficit to score win at UBCO

KELOWNA, B.C. — Joseph Medrano had a season-high off the bench and the Winnipeg Wesmen pulled away for a blowout win Friday night.

Medrano, who missed half the Canada West season due to injury, scored 19 points in a reserve role and the Wesmen men's basketball team earned a 93-76 victory over the UBC-Okanagan Heat. 

The Wesmen won for the fifth time in seven games and improved to 7-8 on the season.

Medrano shot 6-for-9 from the field and hit four of six from three for the Wesmen, who shot 55.2 per cent from the field and went 10-for-23 from three. 

Narcisse Ambanza had a game-high 22 points plus seven assists and four rebounds. He shot 8-for-12 from the field and 4-for-6 from three. Dwight Dixon and Adam Benrabah both had 12 points off the bench.

Don Dayrit scored 10 points in his first start of the season. 

"I was happy with how we responded at the break and the adjustments the guys made," Wesmen head coach Mike Raimbault said. "They were able to get closer to the pace we wanted the game to be at." 

Imoudu Ibrahim led the Heat (3-14) with 15 points and seven rebounds. Owen Keyes and Gus Goerzen had 10 points.
