BRANDON — The Winnipeg Wesmen built a brick wall in the Wheat City on Saturday.
Freshman Paxton Koop had a career-high 11 block assists — part of 24 total Winnipeg blocks — and the Wesmen men's volleyball team salvaged a split of its home-and-home series with the Bobcats in a 3-1 (24-26, 25-21, 25-17, 28-26) victory at the Healthy Living Centre.
The 24 blocks were a season-high and the most for a Wesmen team since they had 26 in a four-set loss to Trinity Western Nov. 10, 2018.
Daniel Thiessen had 15 kills and 13 digs to go along with six block assists, a season-high.
Nigel Nielsen led the way with 16 kills as the Wesmen moved to 7-5 and back into top spot in the East Division.
Koop finished with 11.5 points thanks in part to his six kills on 12 swings.
The Bobcats (5-7) got 11 kills apiece from Max Brook and Philip Lauter.
They were held to .129 attacking while Winnipeg hit .232.
