Technically, it wasn't over in the first quarter. But it sure felt like it.
The Winnipeg Wesmen scored 33 points in the first 10 minutes and used that to cruise to a 96-64 non-conference win over the Brandon Bobcats Saturday to wrap up the Lea-Marc Invitational at the Duckworth Centre.
The Wesmen led by 15 after a quarter, took a 55-29 lead into half and led by as many as 39 when a
Ryan Luke layup capped a 19-4 Wesmen run out of the gates in the third quarter.
All 13 Wesmen players got in the game and recorded a stat and 12 of the 13 scored. The Wesmen bench was responsible for 50 of the team's 96 points, led by
Alberto Gordo's 14 points that went along with five rebounds and five assists.
Mikhail Mikhailov also had 14 points for the Wesmen, who will now take a bye week before opening conference play Nov. 4-5 at home against Thompson Rivers.
Donald Stewart capped off a quality weekend with 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting and four rebounds in just 12 minutes. Luke finished with 11 points and seven rebounds, and the Wesmen out-rebounded their opponents 52-30.
The Bobcats got just 17 points from their starting five and were led by Ian Simba Gasana's 15 points off the bench. Travis Hamberger added 14.
The Bobcats did manage to shoot 10-for-21 from three while the Wesmen struggled and made just five of 27 from the perimeter.
